GoogleとGrameen Foundationがアフリカで協業

Africa: Google and Grameen Foundation launch AppLabという記事より。

アフリカのウガンダでGoogleとGrameen FoundationがSMSを使った検索サービスを展開するとのこと。先進国では以前から展開しているサービスだが、現地の人に合わせたコンテンツ：農民のための天気予報や農作物の市場価格、育成方法や医療機関の情報、マラリアやHIVの情報などを提供する。それによって移動コストを削減することができると記事にはある。

Grameen Groupで携帯電話事業をやっているGrameen PhoneかGrameen Telecomと組むのかと思ったがMTNという南アフリカの携帯電話事業者とGoogleとGrameen Foundationの3社の取り組みのようだ。Grameenの役割としては現地の人のニーズの調査などで２００７年から取り組んでいるプロジェクトであるとのこと。さらにGrameenはバングラデシュで培ったVillage Phoneモデルをアフリカでも広めるための支援をするという。

バングラデシュでの取り組みがどこまでアフリカに移植できるのか、本プロジェクトの利益分配はどのようになっているのか、色々と気になる記事である。

注：Grameen Foundation（以下GF。所在は米国ワシントンDCとシアトル）は、ユヌス博士とGrameenBankの思想と価値観、そして貧困解決のノウハウを共有しつつ、資金源、マネジメント、ガバナンスの点からはGrameen Bankとは独立した組織である(フォーラム注：上記記事中ではa microcredit bankとなっているが、正確には個々人への融資は行なっていない）。世界各地のマイクロファイナンス団体を資金やノウハウの点で支援したり、ICTの活用により貧困の解決に従事している。ちなみにGrameen Bankはバングラデシュでのみマイクロファイナンスを展開している。（GFホームページより要約。以下直接引用↓）
